Capitalism benefits every consumer. The harbingers of statism will create scapegoats. Every business tries to provide you with what you want. The business is rewarded with profits if they’re successful. They suffer losses if they aren’t. Any attempt to tax profits punishes you. The businesses that don’t provide you with what you want are bailed out under statism. This is a perverse incentive structure.
Profits and losses forces, in essence, the business to obey the orders of the customers. Various people acquire wealth due to years of serving the consumer. That only holds true in a free market. A business will then invest the profits in the profitable lines. They will go out of business if they don’t. Any assets they have will be transferred to those who will serve the masses better. Capitalism can only do this, no other system can.
It’s ridiculous to speak of power in regard to a business. They get big due to their success in serving the masses. They don’t have power over you. They can acquire power by buying preferential policies. However, this can’t happen under capitalism. This can only happen under statism. Bigness relies on the masses patronizing them. They can, and many, go through the political system to limit your choices. You’re worse off under statism.
The masses take it for granted that living conditions are as high as they are. They blithely assume new and better products will be created. The growth of statism prevents businesses from providing you with the products you want. Taxing away profits will lower your standard of living. The standard of living has increased, but this isn’t because they were stolen from. That just prevented it from increasing more.
Far too many are blind to the benefits of capitalism. Years of propaganda is certainly a major contributing factor. The feature of statism is destruction. It will not bring about plenty nor will it make your life better. It will destroy the businesses that make your life better. They will say it’s not “real” because they don’t agree with every measure. The essential feature is destruction—that will not change—all else are minor details.
