The overlords will try their hardest to keep you in subjection.  They’ll never quit.  It doesn’t matter how ridiculous their rules get.  They’ll never stop trying to fool you.  They’re not benevolent like they claim and like many think.  The masses aren’t victims, they’re partners in the overlords’ crimes.  Any action they take relies on mass submission.  It’s the same for a totalitarian regime and one elected.

The overlords have no resources of their own.  They have what the masses allow them to take.  Without resources from the masses, they would fall.  They can’t maintain power on their own.  Just like the quote from Frederick Douglas, if the overlords can’t “stand on his own legs, let him fall also.”  The overlords will be defeated if the masses withheld resources from them.  The collapse is automatic.  A conflict isn’t needed: no war, no arms, no insurrection. 

The masses heavily favor voluntary servitude, but that’s not unanimous.  The spirit of freedom will always remain.  It doesn’t matter how scarce it gets.  Even if servitude was unanimous, it would be thought of again.  Indeed, the love of liberty is rare.  However, it will never be nonexistent.  This feeling is an instinct, and can never be bred out of humans.  The status quo bias won’t take hold of all.

It takes many generations to domesticate an animal.  Think about dogs and their wild past.  They’ve been transformed into man’s best friend.  This didn’t happen overnight.  This happened by selectively breeding for certain traits.  While humans aren’t bred like dogs, they have been born in captivity.  Considering their situation has always been the same, they think that’s how it should be.  It’s not a stretch to say humans are the most domesticated animal.

Being born into servitude is more than acceptance.  Many view it as natural.  However, you’ve been taught to idolize your oppressors.  Those are idolized because they provide you with certain benefits.  Yet, they can’t give anything without first having taken it.  They’ll use religious symbolism.  As Étienne de La Boétie put it, “a stray bit of divinity to bolster up their evil ways.”  They want to be idolized.  See through the disguise.
