The Size of the Social Unit: Demented Masses

There is a catastrophic lack of understanding regarding democracy.  This lack of understanding is aggravated by endless propaganda.  A “win” for democracy is a loss for liberty.  It’s the beginning of the abolition of property.  Property is necessary for liberty.  Democracy can have the occasional step towards liberty.  However, the reverse is much more common.  A democratic society can vote its way towards totalitarianism, and that never ends peacefully.

It’s extremely uncommon to find supporters of democracy through history.  Many were outright opponents of it.  If they weren’t opponents, they certainly had apprehensions.  They understood there were despotic tendencies.  Almost no influential thinker thought of it as a good form of government.  This includes every founder.  There wasn’t one exception in the entire group.  Democracy doesn’t achieve the masses ends.

There are a number of false prophets who preach the glory of democracy.  This serves their ends, not yours.  Just as Nietzsche pointed out: it’s the death of people and everything it says is a lie.  The object is to get the greatest number of wicked men to agree on something.  This leads to a wicked politician.  Democracy is nothing more than totalitarianism in disguise.  The masses can—and have—voted their way to it, but can’t vote their way out of it.

“National armies fight nations, royal armies fight their like, the first obey a mob, always demented and the second a king, generally sane.”  J.F.C. Fuller clearly explained the dangers of war in a democracy.  A monarch would have clear objectives for a conflict, like an inheritance dispute.  Democracy is the opposite.  It leads to endless wars because there aren’t clear objectives.  Wars aren’t meant to end, they just pivot.

Democracy flourishes because the herd thinks it’s beneficial.  The sheep are voluntarily walking to the slaughterhouse.  The majority easily obeys.  Those who seek power over others will find those who can be trained.  Election divides the masses into groups so one group must submit to the other.  The group that’s doing the submitting this time might be doing the oppressing next time.  Decisions aren’t based on knowledge, they’re based on emotions.
